This folder contains photos from the basement display at the Taikanten exhibit. A regional club had prepared an exhibit of trees and stones arranged in beautiful open tokanoma display areas.

JAL Reception and Kimura demo

The Taikanten exhibit was coordinated with an exhibition of photographs of bonsai entered in Japan Airlines JAL World Bonsai Contest. This was the first year of the contest, so there was a reception with a demonstration by Mr. Masahiko Kimura. Kimura-san restyled a juniper with the help of some advice and hands-on effort by the audience.

Omiya-koen Visit

A brief visit to Omiya-koen. Most all of the nurseries were closed in conjunction with preparations for the exhibit in Kyoto, but Kathy and I made a stop at Saburo Kato's nursery. We later ran into the Kato family at the JAL reception.
